title: PowerDNS Authoritative Server: Latency
agents: linux
catalog: app/powerdns
license: GPLv2
author: Christian Wirtz
distribution: powerdns-mkp
description:
Reports the average answer latency of the authoritative server. PowerDNS
exposes this as {latency} in microseconds; the check converts it to seconds so
that it renders and graphs like every other duration in Checkmk.

Defaults are {WARN} at 50 ms and {CRIT} at 200 ms. On a server with a local
database backend and a warm packet cache the value is normally far below that,
so the defaults mainly catch a struggling backend.

discovery:
One service is created when the {latency} counter is present.
