title: PowerDNS Recursor: Status
agents: linux
catalog: app/powerdns
license: GPLv2
author: Christian Wirtz
distribution: powerdns-mkp
description:
Reports the overall health of the PowerDNS Recursor: version, uptime, queries
currently in flight, connected TCP clients, open file descriptors and resident
 memory usage.

The number of concurrent queries is also expressed as a percentage of
{max-mthreads}, with levels at 70 and 90 percent. That ratio is the useful
early warning: once it reaches 100 percent the recursor starts dropping queries
 and counting them as {over-capacity-drops}.

As for the authoritative server, {security-status} from the PowerDNS security
polling is mapped to a monitoring state, {WARN} for a recommended upgrade and
{CRIT} for a mandatory one by default.

The service becomes {CRIT} when the agent plugin could not reach the daemon,
and the collector error is included in the output.

discovery:
One service is created on every host where the agent plugin reports the
 {powerdns_recursor} section.
