title: VMware vCenter Server Appliance: Database Usage
agents: vcsa_health
catalog: app/vmware
license: GPL-2.0-only
distribution: check_mk
description:
This check reports vCenter database usage broken down by category
(statistics, events, alarms and tasks) together with the size of each
statistics retention tier (hourly, daily, monthly and yearly). The data is
retrieved by the special agent {agent_vcsa_health} from the appliance
 monitoring API.

The breakdown identifies which category is consuming database space, which
is what distinguishes an actionable alert from one that requires manual
investigation on the appliance. A dominant hourly tier typically indicates
a statistics level set higher than required.

No levels are applied by default. The appliance does not document what the
reported percentage is relative to, so any shipped threshold would be
arbitrary. All values are collected and graphed regardless, so levels can
be chosen from observed behaviour using the ruleset "VCSA database usage".

discovery:
One service is created per appliance where the database metrics are
 reported.
