title: VMware vCenter Server Appliance: DNS Configuration
agents: vcsa_health
catalog: app/vmware
license: GPL-2.0-only
distribution: check_mk
description:
This check monitors the DNS server configuration of a VMware vCenter
Server Appliance (VCSA), reporting the configuration mode and the
configured name servers. The data is retrieved by the special agent
 {agent_vcsa_health}.

Name resolution failures on vCenter cause widespread and confusing
errors across the virtual infrastructure, so an appliance without a
configured DNS server is {CRIT} by default. This state is configurable
via the ruleset "VCSA DNS configuration". The appliance hostname, its
primary network identifier, is reported alongside.

Note that this check verifies that name servers are configured. It does
not verify that name resolution works, since the appliance offers no
resolution test and testing from the Checkmk server would exercise a
 different resolver.

One service is created per appliance.
